| If you own a website and wish to profit from it, it is wise to work hard on its popularity. This does not mean that you just wait for people to discover your website. Simply managing its content and hoping that the right kind of reader will eventually stumble upon it is not enough. This is why it is important to work on your backlinks. These are your website's incoming links. One way to build quality backlinks is to submit your website to various directories all over the Internet. Directories are search engine tools. They are lists of websites and are categorized by human editors. Submitting your URL is very easy but it will take a lot of time. Some directories also require a fee but there are many directories online that are free. You may want to start using these free directories first to begin building your website's backlinks. Once you have submitted your website's URL, editors of these directories will review if your website is fit to be included. For this reason, you have to be careful when it comes to choosing the right kind of category when submitting your website. If you submit it at a category that is not relevant to your website, the editors will not likely list it in the directory. As there are literally hundreds and hundreds of directories online, submitting your website may seem like a daunting task. However, this is something that you, as a webmaster, should focus on. Once your website is included in these directories, you'll have more backlinks. This means that your website will have bigger chances of being considered relevant by search engines, such as Google, Yahoo, or MSN. The more backlinks you have, the more popular your website will become. |
